There was a time when I was constrained, not by physical walls but by societal norms and my own limiting beliefs. I felt boxed in, unable to truly express the freedom I longed for. It wasn’t until I discovered the great outdoors and the liberating world of camping that I began to heal and flourish.
In my youth, camping was often seen as a “man’s hobby.” The gear, the roughing it, the manual labor of setting up a camp—all seemed to shout “masculine.” However, the first time I lit a campfire by myself, something shifted within me. I realized that I was connecting with something primal—something that transcended gender roles. I felt empowered.

But the journey wasn’t just about proving I could do what men do—it was about embracing my feminine energy in a setting that typically didn’t celebrate it. Girl Camper Arizona Chapter, the community I founded, became my platform to help other women experience this transformative power of nature combined with community. It was more than just teaching them how to pitch a tent—it was about helping them build a sanctuary for their soul, even if it was temporary.
Alongside this external journey, an internal one was taking place. The quiet solitude that comes with being in nature allowed me to confront some of my emotional scars. The noise and clutter of the modern world often act as a smokescreen, masking our true feelings and thoughts. But in the wilderness, it’s just you and your inner world. No distractions. I found myself developing a more positive mindset, a stronger emotional resilience, and a deeper spiritual connection.

Today, I advocate for the integration of camping into the lives of women not just as a recreational activity, but as a form of therapy and healing. Conventional medicine has its place, but there’s something unequivocally healing about returning to our natural roots. The physical act of camping involves exercise, fresh air, and often leads to better sleep—essentials for good health. More importantly, the empowerment and community building it offers have profound mental and emotional benefits.

Girl Camper has evolved into more than just an online community or a series of events—it’s a movement. It encourages women to reclaim their sense of adventure, liberate themselves from societal expectations, and heal by connecting with the Earth and each other. It’s a reminder that healing comes in different forms, and sometimes all you need is a tent, a campfire, and the company of like-minded souls to rediscover your true self.
By embracing the wilderness and the communal experience of camping, I’ve found a unique but profoundly effective path to healing. And as I share this journey with other women, I see the ripple effect it has, empowering and healing them in ways they never thought possible. In our struggle to find balance in modern life, sometimes the best medicine is a healthy dose of nature and a dash of sisterhood.
