Video: Dad’s Hilarious Reaction to Daughter’s Surprise Visit From Canada Is Melting Hearts Online

A Northern Ireland father was left speechless and overwhelmed with joy when his daughter, Megan Taylor, 36, flew in from Canada and surprised him at their Carrickfergus home for Mother’s Day.

Megan, who has lived in Toronto since 2015, returned home last month — earlier than planned — to be with her family following the death of her grandmother in December. Although her next visit was scheduled for the summer to celebrate her father’s 70th birthday, Megan felt a deep need to come home sooner.

She orchestrated the surprise with the help of a friend, hiding behind the bins in her parents’ back garden. Her father, Douglas Taylor, 69, unknowingly walked into the emotional reunion, and his reaction was captured on video.

“His reaction was so brilliant!” Megan said. “As you can tell from the video, he was very animated. I didn’t expect him to be so stunned.”

Megan, who works as a vice president at a public relations and marketing firm, added, “I’m back relatively regularly, but like I say, he’s always in the know. I don’t know if he was more stunned that someone else picked me up at the airport or that I was physically in his back garden!”

Keeping the trip under wraps, Megan confided in only one friend, who arranged her airport pickup. After arriving in Carrickfergus, she found her family home empty, so she and her friend passed the time having lunch and picking up flowers and a Mother’s Day card for her mom.

“I only told one friend, so they organized an airport pickup,” Megan said. “I drove home to my house in Carrickfergus, but classically, no one was in.

“My pal and I passed time under the radar, having lunch and picking my mom up a Mother’s Day card and flowers before returning home for the big reveal. At this time, I crouched down under the window in the back garden behind my suitcases and waited for their arrival.”

The touching homecoming serves as a reminder of the power of presence and the joy found in unexpected reunions. Megan will be staying with her family until April 21 before returning to her life in Toronto.
