Nuts are one of the healthiest snack foods in existence. They can and should be eaten any time of day. Dr. Oz eats a handful of nuts just before dinner to take the edge off his appetite. Nuts are also perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up with a cup of coffee or tea. You can use any variety of nuts in this recipe. Increase the amount of cayenne pepper for more heat or leave it out altogether and use chili powder instead for a milder taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted almonds
  • 1 cup unsalted pecans
  • 1 cup unsalted walnuts
  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder or cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt or salt substitute
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 egg whites (organic, free-range, and/or omega-3-enriched), beaten
