A Glacial Triumph: Bettina Vass, Grand Winner

This year, the spotlight shines on Bettina Vass, an Icelandic photographer whose breathtaking image captured within the Katla Ice Cave earned her the coveted Grand Winner title. The photograph, taken on the wedding day of Mauli and Christian, stands as a testament to Bettina’s unique vision. She recounts:

"When Mauli and Christian reached out to me about getting married on a glacier, I knew it would be something extraordinary. The Katla Ice Cave, with its surreal beauty, provided the perfect backdrop for their love story. Watching them exchange vows on the glacier under the setting sun was pure magic."

This journey, from being a kindergarten teacher to an award-winning photographer in just five years, is nothing short of inspiring. Bettina’s story is a reminder that passion, perseverance, and creativity can carve a path to greatness.

"Starting a photography business is tough, especially in those early years. This recognition not only validates our hard work but also encourages us to keep creating. I’m honored to be among such talented peers", she shared.

More Than a Competition

The IWPOTY is more than just an awards ceremony; it’s a celebration of storytelling through images. Founded in 2017, it has grown into a global platform, highlighting the diversity and artistry within the wedding photography industry. According to Luke Simon, the event’s curator:

"This year saw a record-breaking 50% increase in participating photographers. It’s incredible to see the growth, not just in numbers but in the sheer quality of submissions."

Honoring the Most Touching Moments

The competition celebrated exceptional artistry across categories like Epic Location, Dance-Floor, Couple Portrait, and Black and White, showcasing a vibrant spectrum of talent. Renowned judges from countries including Canada, Italy, and Indonesia lent their expertise to select the most stunning and evocative entries.

Among the remarkable photographers recognized this year is Indian photographer Divyam Mehrotra, celebrated for his ability to unveil the depth of human emotions through his lens.

As the ceremony ended and guests began to disperse, Divyam’s lens found Jasmine’s mother, who had been a pillar of strength throughout the day. In a quiet, heartfelt moment, she paused to share her feelings with the image of her late husband displayed at the event. Reflecting on the significance of this fleeting yet powerful exchange, Divyam shared, “Anticipation and patience helped me to capture this important moment for her.” This photograph, steeped in love and memory, is a poignant tribute to the enduring bonds of family.
