COMING SPRING 2025
Why This Project Matters
“Electric Vehicles: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” is an Impactful Pictures Original Documentary starring popular TV and radio personality Larry Elder. The film digs deep into the multi-faceted revolution of electric vehicles (EVs), shedding light on not just the environmental promises but also the challenges and potential pitfalls of this rapidly growing industry. Many governments worldwide have signed up for a net zero emission pledge and the push for EVs is intensifying, with EVs setting a new car sales record in the United States in 2024, but the majority of Americans, over 90 percent, are still driving gas-powered cars. Now, more than ever, the debate on EVs versus gas-powered cars is heating up, and the question of whether or not to switch to EVs is not science fiction but a reality that millions of car buyers are facing. The world needs answers to the question, "Are electric cars really better for the planet?" So the award-winning producer, director, and crew at Impactful Pictures take audiences on an investigative journey beyond the mainstream media’s coverage to uncover the answers to these questions.
This is an important documentary that needs to be seen by all Americans. It is a film not just about cars—it’s about the way we choose to shape our future. With your help, we can let as many Americans as possible know the untold truth about EVs and help them make an informed decision on what could be the most significant change in transportation of our time.
Join us to become part of the truth-seeking movement and bring the truth to light. Thank you for your support!

The Story
A CAPTIVATING JOURNEY INTO
THE WORLD OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES
![]()
“When I first began hearing this business about net zero emissions and that gasoline-powered cars are a threat to the planet and that there's this big push for electric vehicles, I felt conflicted. I love my gasoline-powered cars, but I don't like being told what to do. I don't want the planet to be damaged and frankly, I have a healthy skepticism regarding experts,” says Larry Elder in the opening scene of the documentary.
A DEBATE THAT’S CENTER STAGE AS 17 US STATES PUSH FOR THE BAN OF GAS-POWERED VEHICLES BY 2035
![]()
In 2022, the state of California, under the leadership of Gov. Gavin Newsom, introduced an EV mandate called the Advanced Clean Cars II Regulation (ACC II) to begin banning sales of new gas-powered cars and light trucks in the state. Over a dozen states have also adopted EV mandates banning sales of new gas-powered cars after 2035, and more states are following suit.
While President Trump signed an executive order to terminate the EV mandate on Day 1 of his new administration, the push for EVs continues as EVs set a new car sales record in the US in 2024 and many governments worldwide have signed up for a net zero emission pledge. Now, more than ever, the debate on EVs versus gas-powered cars is heating up.
ARE EVs REALLY BETTER FOR THE PLANET?
LARRY SETS OUT TO FIND THE ANSWER.
![]()
Larry begins his quest by visiting the LA Auto Show and Electrify Expo, which showcase advancements in EV technology, with his friend, a proud Tesla owner, to see what the buzz around EVs is all about. He is left highly impressed by the cars’ reduced battery degradation, self-driving feature, aerodynamic designs for efficiency, and enhanced driving range. While his initial skepticism begins fading away, he still has concerns, especially regarding the environmental impacts of mining for rare earth minerals, national security risks and the high price tag.

ELECTRIC DREAMS, HIDDEN COSTS
Larry unearths significant concerns related to the EV industry, such as:
The extraction of essential EV battery materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel.
The mining in Minnesota and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which is creating both ethical and environmental dilemmas.
The dependency on Chinese mining operations and child labor in cobalt extraction.

60% OF THE WORLD’S COBALT ORIGINATES FROM THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO...
MAINLY UNDER THE STEWARDSHIP OF CHINESE-OWNED MINING OPERATIONS

UNICEF ESTIMATES THAT AROUND 40,000 CHILDREN WORK IN COBALT MINING IN SOUTHERN CONGO

NATIONAL SECURITY RISKS
- 15 of 19 industrial mines in the DRC are Chinese-owned.
- The Chinese Communist Party benefits from weak labor and environmental standards in the region.
- The US struggles to compete due to stricter environmental regulations and limited domestic mining operations.
MAJOR VULNERABILITIES
With China being one of the main suppliers of EV parts and due to the nature of the EV being a “computer with four wheels,” individuals and the entire US could fall victim to hacking or exploitation. EVs could be shut off remotely, tracking mechanisms could be placed inside the vehicles, and notably, it is a known fact that charging station networks are highly insecure.
MOUNTING E-WASTE
As Larry comes to learn, in many ways, EVs are seemingly not as environmentally friendly as they appear.
