When a 14 years old girl ( we call her “Samantha “began to demonstrate mood swings, self-mutilation, paranoia, and oppositional defiant behavior, she received diagnoses of major depression, oppositional defiant disorder, impulse control disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder.
Multiple admissions to hospitals and medication trials only made her worse. Six years later, she has been medication free, excelled in college, studied aviation, and accumulated enough flying hours to become a commercial pilot. What has happened to her? Was she cured or misdiagnosed? Could an integrative approach to mental health have made a difference?
A "sick" pilot? Samantha's story.
