“God’s Doing”: Couple Struggles with Seven Years of Infertility, Adopts Triplets; Days Later, They Discover a Miracle

After seven long years of infertility, Lovensky and Mackenzie Levasseur’s dream of becoming parents came true in the most extraordinary way. Just days after adopting newborn triplet boys, the couple received the miraculous news that Mackenzie was pregnant, proving once again that faith and patience can lead to blessings beyond imagination.

A Love Rooted in Faith

Lovensky and Mackenzie, both 31, met during their college years at a ministry school in Fort Myers, Florida. Mackenzie, originally from Mason City, Iowa, and Lovensky, from Palm Beach, Florida, bonded over their shared love for ministry and music. “We were friends for a bit and then started doing music together at various ministries,” Lovensky shared with The Bright Story.

As their connection deepened, so did their shared vision for a life centered around faith and family. Today, the couple lives in Waverly, Iowa, where they serve as worship pastors at Crosspoint Church, continuing their mission to bring hope and faith to their community.

A Call to Foster and Adopt

Mackenzie, the eldest of five siblings, grew up dreaming of becoming a mom. However, after a devastating miscarriage and seven years of infertility, that dream seemed distant. “When that pregnancy ended, it shattered something in me, and it broke something in Lovensky,” Mackenzie told Today. “Nobody could make it better, and you start to lose hope.”

During this season of waiting, the Levasseurs felt called to foster care. “We talked about doing IVF and fertility treatments, but we didn’t feel like that was going to be part of our story,” Mackenzie explained to Today. Instead, they began considering how fostering could not only fulfill their desire for children but also serve others. “We are Jesus-loving people, so we felt strongly that we were supposed to do this,” Lovensky shared with The Bright Story.

On April 1, 2023, the Levasseurs were approved for foster care in Iowa. Just four days later, their foster care worker reached out with a unique opportunity: triplet newborns. “Our foster care worker called and asked if we would be open to triplet newborns,” Lovensky recalled. “They would need to make an exception to our license, but before they started getting ready to place them in different homes, they reached out to us to try and keep the boys together.”

Despite the challenges of raising three newborns at once, the Levasseurs felt an undeniable peace about the decision. “It was scary, but we had a lot of peace about it,” Lovensky said. “We didn’t know if it was for now or forever, but we knew we could help.”

Lazarus and Leonardo joined the Levasseurs at just five days old, followed by their brother Legend a week later. Despite their birth mother’s struggles and lack of prenatal care, the triplets were born healthy at 35 weeks. “All the nurses were calling them miracle babies,” Mackenzie told Today.

The Levasseurs knew the decision to foster was not just about growing their family but about offering love and stability to children in need. “We couldn’t fathom splitting up the brothers,” Mackenzie said. “Without hesitation, we said yes.” This selfless act would become the first step in a story filled with faith, love, and miracles.

A Miracle Unfolds

As the Levasseurs adjusted to life with three infants, God had more in store for them. On April 11, 2023, they brought home two of the triplets, Lazarus and Leonardo. Just three days later, on that Friday, Mackenzie noticed her period was late and decided to take a pregnancy test. “Our first response was just shock and gratitude,” Lovensky shared with The Bright Story. “Like Holy Moly, God is showing off right now. We had just sort of gotten used to the idea that we would have all these babies in our home, and then to add Mackenzie being pregnant to the mix was crazy.”

Despite the overwhelming reality of raising triplets and a new baby, the Levasseurs embraced this miracle with open hearts. “We were and are just so grateful,” Lovensky said. “We know infertility is a journey, and we know so many are struggling with it. We just trusted God to do His thing, and He came through like the faithful Father He is.”

Mackenzie echoed this sentiment, telling Today, “I couldn’t have made this up in my wildest dreams. For us, it was like, ‘This is totally God’s doing.’”

In December 2023, after 36 hours of labor and a C-section, Mackenzie gave birth to Lennox, affectionately known as Lenny. Though the delivery came with complications, Mackenzie recovered well, and Lenny quickly became an integral part of their bustling household. “Lenny thinks he’s one of the triplets,” Mackenzie told Today. “It’s hilarious because he’s already wearing the same size clothes and trying so hard to walk so that he can keep up with them.”

Lenny’s personality has only added to the joy in the Levasseurs’ home. “Lennox is so sweet. He’s very curious and adventurous, always trying to keep up with his older brothers,” Lovensky shared with The Bright Story. “And he’s a big boy, so he gives them a run for their money!”

Faith at the Center

Faith has been the cornerstone of the Levasseurs’ journey. From enduring the heartbreak of infertility to fostering and adopting, their unwavering belief in God guided them through every challenge. “We are more and more convinced every day that Jesus still does miracles. Our boys are living proof,” Lovensky told The Bright Story.

The Levasseurs incorporated prayer and faith into their parenting, raising their children with a strong spiritual foundation. “We

 pray daily with our boys, and it’s cool to see them starting to understand some things,” Lovensky shared. Mackenzie echoed this sentiment, telling Today, “We turned our attention to things that were not about us. We were very passionate about reunification and helping children find safety and love.”

Navigating the Joys and Challenges of Parenthood

Life with four boys under two years old is anything but quiet. “Toddler life is no joke, and raising boys is hard work! There is lots of wrestling, hugging, and running around the house,” Lovensky told The Bright Story. Mackenzie added with a laugh to Today, “I love when we’re all sitting around the table, and they’re chatting with each other in their own language. We have no idea what the conversation is, but gosh it sounds fun.”

The triplets and Lenny share a close bond. “One of the first words the triplets ever said was ‘Lenny,’” Mackenzie shared. Their pediatrician even jokingly refers to the four boys as “the quads,” given their inseparable nature.

For Lovensky, one of the most rewarding moments as a father is coming home to his boys. “I love coming home from a long day of work and just being with my boys,” he shared with The Bright Story. “They are at the age where all they want is to hang out with their dad. They’ll all want to sit on my lap and attempt to communicate their day. It’s the funniest thing!”

Mackenzie admitted that even simple things, like Christmas decor, had to adapt to their curious little ones. “Christmas has been different this year. Mackenzie has slowly had to take down little bits of her Christmas decor deemed ‘not child-friendly,’” Lovensky joked.

Despite the challenges, the Levasseurs approach parenthood with humor, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the moments of connection with their children.

A Message of Hope

To others facing infertility or considering adoption, Mackenzie and Lovensky offer heartfelt advice. “Keep going, find your tribe, and breathe,” Lovensky told The Bright Story. “The adoption process is long and tedious, but it is worth it, like all good things. I will never forget sitting in the courtroom, filled with family and friends who had stepped up and helped us in the first year. It was overwhelming to think about the love we all had for these boys. I just thought to myself, ‘We did this.’ So keep going, find that tribe, and just breathe. It’ll be worth it, I promise.”

Reflecting on their journey, Lovensky shared: “Our story is unique, but it is also simple. God is the ultimate provider. We’ve wanted to be parents for seven years, but it wasn’t happening. There were days when it was hard, but Mackenzie and I decided to continue praying for what God had placed on our hearts in 2017. During those seven years, we learned a lot—things like leaning on God, not comparing to others, contentment, etc. My message to anyone caught in the waiting is to embrace it. There are truths to be learned, and if you take matters into your own hands, you’ll unfortunately miss it. Don’t miss it.”

A Testament to God’s Faithfulness

The Levasseurs’ journey is a testament to the power of faith, love, and perseverance. “We learned so much in those seven years of waiting. Even in the hardest moments, we leaned on God and trusted His timing,” Lovensky told The Bright Story.

Their story is a reminder that God’s plan is always bigger and better. “We wanted to be parents so badly, and now our house is full of love, laughter, and little feet,” Mackenzie shared with Today. “God’s plan was bigger and better than anything we could have imagined.”

Lovensky reflected, “There are moments in life when you look back and see that everything happened for a reason, and you’re grateful you waited for God’s plan to unfold. Don’t miss what God has for you in the waiting—His plan is always worth it.”
