In 2007 my life took an unexpected detour during a trip to Paris. What was meant to be a joyful adventure turned into a fight for survival as I battled deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. It was a scary and uncertain time, but little did I know, it would lead me on a journey of profound transformation and healing.
The road to recovery was tough. I spent days in hospital rooms, grappling with pain and uncertainty. But through it all, I found strength in the simple act of walking. Each step was a victory, a testament to my resilience and determination to reclaim my life. Yet, the physical recovery was just the beginning. I struggled with medication management and the lingering effects of trauma, facing post-traumatic stress disorder and overwhelming feelings of shame and regret.
But amid the darkness, there were glimmers of hope. The love of my family, friends, dogs, and the healing power of nature brought light into my life—reminding me that I was not alone on this journey.
Through meditation and mindfulness, I found true healing. With each breath, I learned to quiet the noise of my mind and embrace the present moment. Meditation became my sanctuary, a place where I could find peace amid the chaos.
As I delved deeper into my healing journey, I discovered the transformative power of a plant-based lifestyle. Nourishing my body with wholesome, plant-based foods became a form of self-care, fueling my body with the nutrients it needed to thrive.
Although the transition to a plant-based lifestyle was challenging, it brought about profound changes in my health and well-being. My body felt stronger, my heart lighter, and my relationships deeper. It was a holistic transformation that touched every aspect of my life, from my vocation to my daily habits.
Yes, the healing journey was painful and at times overwhelming. But looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. The transformation I’ve experienced—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—has been nothing short of miraculous. And for that, I am grateful.
Now, my journey continues by helping others to heal. I am a passionate advocate, sharing my story, knowledge, and compassion as a plant-based health coach and author of “How To Eat An Elephant With A Spoon.”
Helping others heal is helping me too—I’ve experienced a deeper healing through sharing my story. The reciprocity is priceless.
