I’m hoping your Saturday morning is off to a good start! After the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s sweeping global tariffs yesterday, the president criticized the justices and ordered a 10 percent global tariff using a different legal mechanism.
It’s hard to think of a recent court decision with the massive economic consequences that compare to this one. The United States collected more than $133 billion in revenue under these duties since 2025.
What follows will be complex and take time. The president indicated that there will be a legal battle over the refunds. Many companies, including Costco and Revlon, had already filed pre-emptive lawsuits.
The White House is also planning to tap into alternative authorities to revive the tariffs which have been key to the president’s foreign affairs agenda. Here are five takeaways from the epochal decision. |
