A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR ADF
Women shouldn’t have to share locker rooms with men. They shouldn’t have to compete against male athletes. But across America, that’s exactly what’s happening.

Men are being allowed to compete in women’s sports—robbing girls of scholarships, medals, titles, and safety.

Now, for the first time in history, the U.S. Supreme Court has heard two cases that could decide the future of women’s sports nationwide.

If you believe women’s sports should be reserved for women, we need your voice today.

Behind the Number 40
Behind the Number 40
Certain numbers carry meanings that go beyond simple mathematics. Among them, few are as persistent—or as evocative—as the number 40. Again and again, it appears at moments of trial and transition across time and cultures, marking the passage from one stage of life to another. Whether in sacred texts, folklore, history, or even modern science, 40 often signals a period of testing that leads, eventually, to renewal.

In the Bible, the pattern is unmistakable. Noah’s flood lasted 40 days and nights before the world emerged cleansed. Moses fasted for 40 days on Mount Sinai before receiving the law, and the Israelites wandered for 40 years in the wilderness before entering the promised land. When the prophet Elijah despaired, he journeyed 40 days to Mount Horeb, where his mission was renewed. In the New Testament, Jesus fasted 40 days in the desert before beginning his ministry and appeared to his disciples for 40 days after the Resurrection before ascending to heaven.

In each case, the number marks a threshold—an interval of hardship, preparation, or purification—that precedes a new beginning.

The symbolism has practical roots as well. In biblical tradition, 40 represents the fullness of testing within the created world: a finite span long enough to transform a person but not so long that hope disappears. Even ancient law reflected this balance, limiting punishment to 40 lashes—judgment restrained by mercy.

Echoes of this symbolism persist far beyond religious tradition. The word “quarantine” comes from the Italian for “forty days"—the period that ships were once required to remain isolated during plague outbreaks. Human pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks, a hidden season of growth before new life begins.

From Scripture to folklore, politics, and everyday speech, the number continues to symbolize endurance, patience, and the promise that after a season of testing, renewal will follow.
