​​The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has unsealed charges against 13 individuals in connection with the unlawful distribution of nearly 70 million opioid pills, with an estimated street value of $1.3 billion. The 13 individuals include pharmaceutical distributor executives, sales representatives, and brokers.

DOJ says the operation is the largest-ever criminal enforcement action targeting distributors of pharmaceutical opioids. Court documents reveal the defendants targeted pill-mill pharmacies in and around Houston, a region recognized as a “hot zone” for the diversion of pharmaceutical opioids onto the black market…
