President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and other U.S. political leaders celebrated the news of Hamas terrorist group leader Yahya Sinwar’s death.

Sinwar, 61, had served as the top Hamas figure in Gaza since 2017, and as the chairman of the Hamas political bureau since August. He was seen by Israel as the mastermind behind the Oct. 7, 2023, invasion, during which Hamas gunmen carried out killings and kidnappings across southern Israel, leaving about 1,200 people dead, thousands more wounded, and 251 abducted as hostages.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its troops, working in conjunction with the Israeli Security Agency, limited Sinwar’s movements as they closed in on his final location. “Yahya Sinwar was eliminated after hiding for the past year behind the civilian population of Gaza, both above and below ground in Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip,” the IDF said. An independent panel is calling for an overhaul of the U.S. Secret Service after reviewing the agency’s handling of the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

In a 52-page report released Thursday, the panel of experts commissioned by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas criticized the Secret Service for its “do more with less” culture and a general “lack of critical thinking.”

“The Secret Service has become bureaucratic, complacent, and static even though risks have multiplied and technology has evolved,” the panel said in a letter accompanying the report. “The work of the Independent Review Panel uncovered not only numerous mistakes that led to the events of July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, but also deeper, systemic issues that must be addressed with urgency.” Read the full story here›
