Musk Says Federal Workers Must Report Weekly Accomplishments or Face Termination Elon Musk said that President Donald Trump has directed the Department of Government Efficiency to send an email to all federal employees asking them to reply with a detailed account of their accomplishments from the past week.
“Consistent with President [Trump’s] instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week,” Musk stated in a Feb. 22 post on social media platform X. “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”
The White House posted a copy of the email on X. The message asks workers to provide a summary of their on-the-job accomplishments last week by a Monday midnight deadline. Speaking the same day at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) near Washington, Trump laid out a broader vision for reshaping the federal workforce. He vowed to enforce stricter workplace attendance, eliminate remote work privileges, and expose government employees engaged in outside employment. (More) |
Cartel-Linked Smugglers Arrested in US–Mexico Operation An enforcement operation conducted as part of a bilateral cooperation between the United States and Mexico has led to disruptions and arrests in human smuggling operations. The Mexico Attorney General’s Office conducted a “significant enforcement operation to dismantle a prolific transnational alien smuggling organization operating in Juarez, Chihuahua, along the U.S.-Mexico border,” the DOJ said.
The organization employs Mexican nationals, many of whom are either former or current members of various cartels, the DOJ said. “The criminal organization is also alleged to have kidnapped aliens seeking to enter the United States illegally and extorted their families for money before completing their smuggling journey.”
In the operation, arrest warrants were executed against two individuals alleged to be human smugglers. The Mexican nationals, Brian Alan Torres Gonzalez and Soledad Morales Nava, are set to be prosecuted in Mexico, with the United States providing evidence for the prosecution, the Department of Justice said. Efforts to Arrange Trump–Putin Meeting Underway, Moscow Says Moscow is working to arrange a face-to-face meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Saturday.
Ryabkov said the efforts to arrange the meeting have begun in earnest but will require “the most intensive preparatory work.” U.S. and Russian envoys could meet “within the next two weeks” to lay the groundwork for the eventual talks between the two leaders, Ryabkov said.
If Washington and Moscow can arrange for the two leaders to meet, it will mark the first time that a U.S. president and a Russian president met directly since June 2021, when Putin met with then-U.S. President Joe Biden in Geneva, Switzerland. It would also be the first in-person meeting between the leaders of the United States and Russia since Moscow’s troops marched on Ukraine three years ago.
