Hurricane Helene With ferocious winds of up to 140 mph, Hurricane Helene strengthened to a Category 4 storm ahead of making landfall in Florida. Officials expected a catastrophic storm surge of 15 to 20 feet and feared extensive damage and fatalities. “It's going to be hard for a storm of this strength not to cause some type of potential fatalities, especially if you're in a low lying area,” said Florida’s State Fire Marshal and Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis. The Indictment Federal prosecutors on Thursday charged New York City Mayor Eric Adams with wire fraud, bribery, and soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals. Adams said he was innocent, won’t resign from office, and would fight the charges. Adams maintains that the effort to prosecute him has political motives, and the mayor has dug in his heels for what may be a protracted legal defense. He told reporters on Thursday that the charges, leaks, and what he called the “demonization” of himself and his administration hadn’t caught him off guard. “This is not surprising to us at all,” the mayor said. “I ask that New Yorkers wait to hear our defense before making any judgments.” Read the full story here› |
Miracles Divine intervention saved former President Donald Trump from two assassination attempts, according to his wife, Melania Trump. “I think both of the events, they were really miracles if you really think about it,” the former first lady said in a rare interview. When the former first lady received word of the shooting, she was working and had the rally paused on the TV in the background. “I ran to the TV, and I rewind it, and I watched it,” she said, noting that she was only a few minutes behind. “I think something was watching over him,” she said. “That maybe God’s sparing his life?” Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earhardt asked. “Yes,” Melania Trump said.
