Iran’s Nuclear Plants President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he opposes any strike by Israel on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The president weighed in as Israel weighed its options for a response to Tehran’s large-scale ballistic missile attack. "The answer is no,” Biden said, while speaking with members of the press at Joint Base Andrews on Oct. 2, the day after Iran launched around 180 ballistic missiles toward Israel. Shortly after the Iranian barrage, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) urged the Biden administration "to coordinate an overwhelming response with Israel," and suggested the response start with Iranian oil refineries. The Biden administration has said the United States remains “fully supportive” of Israel following the Iranian barrage. The White House said Biden spoke with his fellow Group of Seven leaders over the phone on Wednesday to discuss coordinating a response to the Iranian barrage, "including new sanctions." Disaster Zone Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris made their first visit on Wednesday to the areas ravaged by Hurricane Helene. FEMA and other agencies said they were setting up for multi-year recovery. Biden visited North Carolina and South Carolina to tour the damaged areas. The president planned to continue his tour with stops in Georgia and Florida on Oct. 3, according to the White House. Harris traveled to Augusta, Georgia, to survey impacted areas and provide updates on the federal government’s response.
More than 50 counties across Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina, including land owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, have been designated as major disaster areas by Biden. His aerial tour aboard Marine One flew over devastated areas of both Carolinas, including the North Carolina communities of Biltmore Village, Swannanoa, Asheville, Black Mountain, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure.
