| For nearly two decades, the NTD International Piano Competition has recognized more than just technical brilliance. This year's competition, scheduled for September in New York City, invites pianists from around the world to participate in an event devoted to preserving the beauty, depth, and spiritual richness of classical music traditions.
Founded by New Tang Dynasty Television in 2007, the competition focuses on masterpieces from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods while also introducing contestants to an original composition inspired by traditional Chinese culture. This year’s commissioned piece, written by Shen Yun Performing Arts artistic director Mr. D.F., blends Eastern and Western musical traditions in a work intended to express harmony, transcendence, and reverence for the divine.
Professor Becky Yao, chair of the judging panel and a music professor at Fei Tian College, describes classical music as more than entertainment. It can offer comfort, courage, and moral clarity during uncertainty. Music has the power to unite and inspire, even in moments of crisis.
In the NTD competition, rigorous artistic standards are paired with encouragement and mentorship. Past winners have gone on to successful international careers, while many participants describe the event as personally transformative.
Blending performance and cultural heritage, the NTD International Piano Competition presents music as a pursuit of beauty, truth, and excellence. With any luck, the competition will help keep those ideals alive for a new generation of artists and audiences alike.
